Blurbs

There are many avenues of processing; I’ve always found writing to be a good one.

Now, I’m no professional blogger- so I call them “blurbs.” Or I often refer to them as “painful insights,” Just short little snippets of thought and experience.

These thoughts are just my own words flowing and giving my brain a little space. Take the ones that speak to you and leave the rest.

Also, please be kind when judging my grammar and punctuation…

I was not an English major.

The Space Inside of Compression

Squeezing, constricting, consolidating, compressing - a bunch of words that relate to space. But they probably didn’t make you think more space, did they? It’s kind of a counterintuitive thought, but there is space inside of compression - or rather, just outside of...

Joy Simulation

Hi Friends, Have you ever taken a “laughter yoga” class? Did you even know that was a thing?! Well, it certainly is & contrary to what you might immediately picture, these classes are not taught by a standup comedian. Classes consist of different exercises to...

Fear Factor

Last night I felt like a contestant on that show… you know, the one where they put people into situations that terrify them & the only way to win is by mastering fear? Many of you know me as an avid snowboarder, a sport in which riding chairlifts is all part of...

Happy New New Year

Hi Friends Depending on which calendar you follow-- you may still be waiting to celebrate your New Year. Tuesday, February 17th marks the Lunar New Year for 2026. Now, I dont know nearly as much as I would like to about the metaphysical, but what I’ve learned about...

The End of an Era

Last week I taught my last yoga classes at a place I’ve been a part of since nearly their opening day 8 years ago. After much deliberation, I made my decision to leave the space. It feels like the end of an era & for this Capricorn, change is hard. I don’t know...

Window Weather

Hi Friends, Here in the upper Midwest, we’ve got some quintessential Minnesota weather happening (I believe the high for today is set to be -6), but you wouldn’t know it by just looking out the window; it’s sunny with blue skies. There’s an Icelandic word for weather...

Super Duper Moon!

The last full moon of 2025 shines upon us 🌝 & a supermoon to boot!! I have been a tad obsessed with the moon my whole life (one of my first full sentences was, “moon up sky, mom”) and though I don’t know a fraction of all of its cosmic significance, I feel its...

The Caterpillar Prediction

Hi Friends, I learned some lore today: the “woolly bear” caterpillar is a predictor of the coming winter weather!! These little guys are made up of 13 segments that are covered in either brown or black fuzz. According to legend, the more black fuzz they have, the...

Cozy Season

Hi Friends, Fall has taken its official turn, the temp has dropped & the beanie has finally taken up its rightful place upon my head again!! Welcome back to cozy season! As the daylight dwindles, we get the opportunity to shift our routine & take a sort of...

The Power of the Mind

Hi Friends, I feel like too often, the mind is not considered with equal weight as the body when it comes to chronic pain. We just default to the ol' ‘gotta see it to believe it’ adage. As someone who lives with a form of pain that does have a visible, measurable...

“Pain Check”

Hi Friends, The other day, it rained consistently the entire day, causing the relative humidity to steadily rise to around 100% and stay there. My body responds very poorly to humidity - and any of you also living with inflammatory issues might feel similarly. I get...

Creativity Constraints

Hi Friends, I got to speak with an artist I much admire yesterday, and I learned of a system they adopted in their painting process a while ago - to paint every day, but only for 1 hour. They do this so as not to have the time to overthink & also, in the long run,...

Movement Magic

Hi Friends, Of course, I’m a little biased here, but I really do believe that movement makes just about every aspect of life better. Maybe the most magical part is that physical movement not only positively affects the physical body, but tends to free up the mind just...

Halfway Point

Hi Friends, With Q3 & 4th of July already next week, we find ourselves halfway through 2025! I have always wanted to be a bit more goal-oriented. My creative mind can always paint big, beautiful, detailed dreams, but then the path to get there seems unclear. So I...

A Storm is a-Comin’

Hi Friends, As we were out on the boat the other day, we saw the above image coming in the distance. Being several channels away from our launch, we needed to decide to fight, flee, freeze or just chill. Those of you who know me well know I love a good thunderstorm...
