Window Weather

Hi Friends,

Here in the upper Midwest, we’ve got some quintessential Minnesota weather happening (I believe the high for today is set to be -6), but you wouldn’t know it by just looking out the window; it’s sunny with blue skies.

There’s an Icelandic word for weather that looks nice from inside the house, but is actually bitterly cold: Gluggave∂ur (pronounced “GLOO-ga-veth-ur”) “window weather.”

Not to get too philosophical here, but I feel like the concept of experiencing something from the inside & outside can often be vastly different.

Take my disease for example- arthritis is commonly in the category of “invisible disability” & I’ve received many shocked responses over the years when I tell people I live in chronic pain.

It just goes to show that your best bet is to never assume. Don’t judge the weather by the window. You just gotta go outside to find out!

love, Stephanie
